A downloadable game

This was originally a team project in my Game Workshop class, but it sort of accidentally became a solo project that I was contributing to. The name of this game is Fence On! since it's a fencing fighting game. The name was chosen after the first week of development, I had a "Come On!" taunt and needed a name for the fencing/arcade game. The game is a 1 on 1 single arena platform fighting game where you try to knock your opponent off of the stage. I took initiative to get better at programming for this assignment in particular. Good thing I did, my programming skills improved quite a lot because of this assignment. From the playtesting I got to witness, nothing mechanically appeared to break, I put in a lot of time playing against myself testing all scenarios with each mechanic that I could come up with and fixed issues as I came across them. Because I suddenly had to make sprites (was originally a team project, turned solo) I used the original programmer art I made posed for each scenario as characters and created new background, stage, and UI graphics. My contributions to this game included:

  • Programming the whole game (my primary job)
  • Graphic Design (finished in the time frame, not my original job)
  • Concept of the game (mostly in control and functionality)
  • Uploading and Building for Windows (itch page)
  • Playtesting (making sure both characters worked equally)

I think despite the stress of having to suddenly build nearly an entire game of assets primarily created by me in 2 weeks, I learned a lot about programming from this project. The game was successful groundwork for me personally because I learned how to program efficiently and carefully.

Here is the actual page for downloading the game!
